Masterclass From Concept to Screen

In this masterclass, the making of Anak Indië will be explained. How the idea for this hybrid documentary came about, and its development, which led to the most-seen documentary of 2025 in the Netherlands. Topics such as structure, archive, animation, image rights, Single-shot-cinema, music use, editing and marketing will all be covered.

Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich worked for many years as a teacher in Curaçao. Together with her brother Leonard Retel Helmrich, she founded Scarabeefilms in 1989. Films she has directed have already been awarded the prestigious Kristallen Filmstatus*.
As producer and screenwriter of the Indonesia trilogy, she has won numerous international film awards at festivals including ,among others, IDFA and Sundance. Since 2023, Hetty has become a member of the European Film Academy.

*Dutch Film Award presented when a Dutch documentary or short film manages to reach 10.000 visitors.
