After 50 years of pioneering, the progressive publishing house “In de Knipscheer” is closing its doors. From the 1970s onwards, brothers Jos and Franc Knipscheer devoted themselves tirelessly to experimental and socially critical Dutch and foreign literature. In addition to Black American literature, they also published Indian, African, Surinamese, and Antillean books. Over the years, the publishing house grew to become an important bridge between Dutch-language readers and various Antillean writers. In this film, we meet the surviving brother behind the publishing house, Franc Knipscheer, and his special love for Caribbean literature, and Curaçaoan writers reflect on the harvest of 50 years of “In de Knipscheer”.
