12th Edition of the Curacao International Film Festival opens with preview screening on Thursday March 19

WILLEMSTAD, March 11, 2026 – On Thursday, March 19, the Curaçao International Film Festival (CIFF) will host a special preview film evening at The Movies Otrobanda. The event marks the kickoff of the 12th edition of the festival and offers film lovers an early glimpse of what will be featured during CIFF from April 14 through April 19, 2026.

The evening will focus on the award winning Spanish film Sorda by director Eva Libertad. The film follows Angela, a deaf woman who is expecting a child with her hearing partner, and explores the questions and challenges that arise around communication, expectations, and how a society largely shaped by sound creates space for people who are deaf. Sorda premiered at the Berlinale, where it won the Audience Award in the Panorama section, and has since received recognition at several other international film festivals.

With this special screening, CIFF offers audiences an early taste of the diverse and high quality program that will be presented during the festival’s 12th edition.
